From Monti to Monte Olia:

1^ step:
Monti
the
journey starts from the country of Monti and goes to the
upland plain of Sos Sambinzos, where we can find the
homonym “solar circle”. We can reach then “Nodu ‘e
S’Appare” (that in logudorese dialect means “cliff of wild
garlic”) for arriving to the “Funtana Pedra Bianca”, so
called because is surrounded by a rock of white quartz.
Proceeding from “Sa Toa a Enattu’e sa Conchedda”, we reach
the road “Mazinaiu e Monte Aspro”. After that we proceed
to the forester of “Sos Littos-Sas Tumbas”, and continue
to “M. Figos-Badde Suelzu” and we finally arrive to the
Monte Olia.
The town
of Monti, located in the region of the Monte Acuto, on the
hills to the border between the Gallura and the
Logudorese, presents archeological architectural and
environmental sites of great interest.
Situated
in the center of the territory of Gallura, few minutes
from the airport of Olbia and from the ports of Olbia and
Golfo Aranci, Monti is surrounded by granite rocks,
forests of cork, mediterranean vegetation and vineyards
from which the famous Vermentino is produced, symbol of
Gallura and unic wine in Sardinia that has the
certification name of DOP.
2^ step:
Monte Olia
Monte
Olia is the highest mountain of the area. Covered from a
thick forest of conifers from the slopes, on the top we
can admire the sight of a huge panorama. The area holds a
forest in the southern corner of the town of Monti, one of
the more interesting naturalistic attractions in the zone
with view on the natural park which is populated of
numerous species of animals such as birds of prey, wild
boars, deers and roe deers.
Monti – enogastronomic
itinerary
HOW TO
ARRIVE: once arrived at the airport of Olbia, take the
road n. 597 for Sassari until the fork for Monti.
Time of
route: about 20 minutes.
WHAT TO VISIT: The
vermentino vine, differently to other cultivations and
wine productions of Sardinia, holds a recent tradition; it
would be appeared in the northern part of Sardinia about
in the, nine-theenth century coming from Corsica. This
vine found in Gallura its natural habitat; progressively
has reached the zone of Alghero and Cagliari, but the
Gallura’s one represents its best expression.
The name
of origin Vermentino of Sardinia go back to 1989 and
interests all the wine-growing areas of the region. In
such a land, where the wine is the symbol of the daily
life, a grear feast is entirely dedicated to the
Vermentino, in middle August: samplings are offered
together with some Sardinian food, technical meetings are
held with the objective of the qualitative growth of the
product.
Birori – archeological
itinerary
TOMBA DEI
GIGANTI LASSIA E PALATTU – BIRORI
Access -
From Birori take the road to Borore, just outside from the
town turn to the right in the old road for the train
station: the grave Lassia is located after 300mt on the
left side, near the road, and is signalled from a sign.
The grave of Palattu is situated in the suburbs of the
town, just in the homonymous district.
Why visit
Birori
In the
town we’ll find the green areas of Funtana Idda and
Greater Funtana In The main square there is the church of
Santo Stefano, built in the XVII century, that held inside
the image of the Saint. In the area of the town we can
also find the grave “Su Palatu”. In the suburbs of the
town the nuraghe of Arbu and Miuddu are found.
Near the train station we find the dolmen
of “Tanca Sar Bogadas” and “Sa Perda e S'Altare”. Near
the same station is located the graves of “Lassia”.
