the journey starts from the country of Monti and goes to the upland plain of Sos Sambinzos, where we can find the homonym “solar circle”.  We can reach then “Nodu ‘e S’Appare” (that in logudorese dialect means “cliff of wild garlic”) for arriving to the “Funtana Pedra Bianca”, so called because is surrounded by a rock of white quartz.

Proceeding from “Sa Toa a Enattu’e sa Conchedda”, we reach the road “Mazinaiu e Monte Aspro”.  After that we proceed to the forester of “Sos Littos-Sas Tumbas”, and continue to “M. Figos-Badde Suelzu” and we finally arrive to the Monte Olia.

The town of Monti, located in the region of the Monte Acuto, on the hills to the border between the Gallura and the Logudorese, presents archeological architectural and environmental sites of great interest.

Situated in the center of the territory of Gallura, few minutes from the airport of Olbia and from the ports of Olbia and Golfo Aranci, Monti is surrounded by granite rocks, forests of cork, mediterranean vegetation and vineyards from which the famous Vermentino is produced, symbol of Gallura and unic wine in Sardinia that has the certification name of DOP.

2^ step:  Monte Olia

Monte Olia is the highest mountain of the area. Covered from a thick forest of conifers from the slopes, on the top we can admire the sight of a huge panorama. The area holds a forest in the southern corner of the town of Monti, one of the more interesting naturalistic attractions in the zone with view on the natural park which is populated of numerous species of animals such as birds of prey, wild boars, deers and roe deers.

Monti – enogastronomic itinerary

HOW TO ARRIVE:  once arrived at the airport of Olbia, take the road n. 597 for Sassari until the fork for Monti.

Time of route: about 20 minutes.

WHAT TO VISIT:  The vermentino vine, differently to other cultivations and wine productions of Sardinia, holds a recent tradition; it would be appeared in the northern part of Sardinia about in the, nine-theenth century coming from Corsica. This vine found in Gallura its natural habitat; progressively has reached the zone of Alghero and Cagliari, but the Gallura’s one represents its best expression.

The name of origin Vermentino of Sardinia go back to 1989 and interests all the wine-growing areas of the region. In such a land, where the wine is the symbol of the daily life, a grear feast is entirely dedicated to the Vermentino, in middle August: samplings are offered together with some Sardinian food, technical meetings are held with the objective of the qualitative growth of the product.
